Isaiah 55
An Invitation to Abundant Life
1 Ho, everyone who thirsts,
come to the waters;
and you that have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without price.
2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good,
and delight yourselves in rich food.
We don’t have to wait for this day. We can choose it now by choosing the well-being of all people rather than concern ourselves with who does and doesn’t deserve access to the abundant resources that only a small portion of us benefit from now.
If you don’t know who Buckminster Fuller is look him up. What is below comes from the Buckminster Fuller Institute.
“From the moment of his 1927 decision to make his life an experiment in individual initiative, Fuller addressed himself to the largest questions he could formulate. He sought to discover what it would take to “make the world work”—that is, to provide adequate food, energy, and shelter for 100% of humanity to enjoy a high standard of living.
As part of this research, Fuller made an assessment of global food production and distribution that led to his 1959 prediction of the conquest of poverty by the year 2000. Nearly twenty years later, in 1977, the National Academy of Sciences confirmed his prediction.”
As someone who believes that Bucky was right, I feel quite certain that #Wethepeople can usher in a new economy if we let go of the fear of others receiving. If the magic $2 trillion+ shows us anything, it’s that the economy is not a zero sum game. The rules are written in sand.
Given this, why are we still so far off from Buckminster Fuller’s prediction? My thought?
Because we concern ourselves more with preventing the well-being of those we feel don’t deserve it than we do seeking the greatest well-being for the most people. We can do better.
