Back to the Playground

Do you remember what it was like as a child to go to the playground to have fun and not worry about unimportant things such as, “Will anyone like me?”, “Am I wearing the latest fashion”, “Can I play as well as other kids?”  When I watch my daughter out on the playground I know that I am witnessing the kingdom of God–God’s intended reality for us.  She goes out there and she plays and makes instant friends.  Sure she may never see those kids for the rest of her life, but that doesn’t matter.  She’s in the moment.  They are in the moment.  Wouldn’t it be awesome if all of life was that easy?  I am of the belief that it can be and that is what my wife and I are working toward and trying to share in the above video.  That’s what we are working on in our relationship and hoping to share with others.  I think Jesus was on to something when he said, Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” and “Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  For modern times I might translate “kingdom of heaven” into  ultimate reality or some other accessible terms, but you get my drift.

Now I am not going to sit here and pretend that I have mastered this, but I will say everyday I strive toward that consciousness.  Let’s face it, there are very few of us who would not admit that life seemed easier as a child no matter what we went through.  There was something about that ability to let go and be totally present at the same time.  We were so in it then that we didn’t realize our natural mastery.  Can you imagine being that present and aware again? Are you willing to put in the work to remember what it feels like to play?
