If you are like me and my guest, Chickasaw Comedian Blake Pickens, your childhood education around the first Thanksgiving holiday was filled with stories of pilgrims, buckle hats, and happy Indigenous folks. This happened two years after my folks came to America for our “internships”. Since learning about the histories of our peoples, I have always wanted to talk to an Indigenous person about how they felt about the holiday. And last week I had my chance with Blake. For those of you who don’t know, one of my new creative outlets is a nonprofit project called, The Liberation Comedy Project. A part of that project is my podcast, “What’s So Funny About…?” In this special “Thanksgiving” episode, Blake and I take a hilarious and critical look at this institution, history, and all sorts of other human stuff. I invite you to take a listen and share if you think it’s insightful or even inciteful. LOL. Enjoy.
And be sure to check out the Supaman music video just underneath. It is equally thought provoking.
